I don't understand why people keep repeating the wrong idea that "braking energy is converted". It has nothing to do with braking or the brake system. The MGU-K is an electric motor generator that is connected to the combustion engine. When the driver releases the throttle, it starts to operate using the energy of the car's movement (kinetic) that is transferred from the wheels to the engine, and then to the motor generator, making it rotate and produce electrical current that charges the battery. This way, the MGU-K helps to decelerate the car, but it doesn't use any "braking energy". Afterwards, it can operate as an electric motor using the energy stored in the battery to deliver power to the car.

Having listened to the entire series I can attest; in my opinion, to the fact that three components namely the mgu-H, mgu-K and the battery store are the key components to Redbull's speed and not entirely to Newey's aerodynamic contribution but complimenting each other. The mgu-H generates a substantial amount of power from turbo operating at extremely high rpms with most of it routed to the mgu-K first and whatever is left after the 4Kjs is stored at the battery hence making the mgu-K a "secondary storage unit". The mgu-k's 2Kj per lap energy is stored by the battery upon which it's deployed to the mgu-H when needed and the 4Kj 20kg-25kg battery which should ideally be more (+4.5Kj) considering Japan's lithium ion battery design superiority provides a continuous 4kj of power to the mgu-K as regulated with an additional to the mgu-H before regeneration with it having no strict compounding.. My own thoughts wish I could be clearer.. Lol
